Sophia had always been effortlessly beautiful. In her small, idyllic town, she was known for her radiant skin, piercing blue eyes, and dark, flowing hair. But as her 40th birthday approached, Sophia began to notice subtle changes. A wrinkle here, a line there—nothing too alarming, but enough to make her look twice in the mirror.
One evening, as she scrolled through social media, she saw an ad: "Botox Serum—Erase a decade in days!" The woman in the ad seemed ordinary, but after using the serum, her face became flawless, youthful—almost...perfect. Sophia couldn't resist.
She ordered it immediately.
The serum arrived the next morning in a sleek, black box. It wasn’t like the usual creams she’d tried over the years. This had a strange, iridescent glow. The instructions were simple: apply nightly. Sophia was excited, yet a little apprehensive, but she dismissed her doubts as vanity.
That night, after her usual skincare routine, she applied the serum. It felt cool and soothing on her skin, sinking in almost instantly. By morning, there was no visible difference, but something felt different. Sophia shrugged it off, thinking maybe it just needed time.
Over the next few days, her skin began to change. The fine lines around her eyes vanished. Her cheeks seemed plumper, more lifted. Friends and coworkers complimented her on how rested she looked, how radiant. The transformation was subtle, but undeniable. She felt like she was aging backward.
By the end of the week, her reflection seemed perfect. Her skin was flawless, porcelain smooth. Even the little imperfections she’d always had—a mole by her lip, the faint freckles on her nose—were gone. She looked like a photo-shopped version of herself, impossibly beautiful, almost doll-like.
Sophia basked in the compliments. Everyone wanted to know her secret, but she guarded it jealously. She continued to apply the serum religiously every night.
Then, strange things started happening.
One morning, as she applied makeup, she noticed a tiny patch of her skin was stiff, almost like plastic. She touched it, and a piece flaked off. Beneath it was smooth, synthetic skin, shiny and cold. She panicked but covered it up with makeup, convincing herself it was nothing.
But each day, more of her skin began to peel. She noticed her hair stopped growing. Even her eyes, once vibrant, seemed to lose their spark, becoming glossy like glass.
Terrified, Sophia called the customer service number from the serum box. No one answered. Desperate, she scoured the internet for any mention of the serum. She found nothing. It was as if the product—and the company—never existed.
Sophia stopped using the serum immediately, hoping her body would recover. But it was too late. Her skin continued to deteriorate, peeling away like layers of an onion, revealing more of the strange, synthetic material underneath. Her once-beautiful face was now a mask, hard and emotionless.
She became a recluse, hiding from the world, ashamed of what she had become. One night, after hours of staring at her reflection, she noticed something even more horrifying: her face was beginning to crack, like porcelain under pressure.
And then she heard it—a soft voice, mechanical, coming from deep within her.
“You are almost complete.”
Complete? What did that mean? She screamed, clawing at her face, trying to remove the mask. But as she tore at her skin, she realized there was no going back. The serum had done more than just change her appearance—it had transformed her into something else.
Something not quite human.
Desperate, Sophia smashed every mirror in the house, but it didn’t matter. She could feel it now, deep within her bones—she was no longer herself. The serum had turned her into a living, breathing doll, trapped in a flawless body she could no longer recognize.
As she sat in the dark, waiting for the inevitable, the voice inside her head whispered again, soft and soothing:
"Perfection comes at a price."
And Sophia, now more doll than woman, understood—she had paid it in full.
