Parents, take note! Does your kid have a REI Co-op REV 12, 16, or 20-inch bike that they are learning to ride? If so, it's time to put those training wheels away for a while. A possible safety hazard with the training wheel assembly on these bikes has prompted REI to issue a recall.
The issue? The training wheels may come loose and separate from the knob that holds them in place. Your child may tumble as a result of this unplanned disengagement, suffering bumps, scrapes, and possibly even more severe injuries.
Regarding your child's safety, REI isn't taking any chances. All clients have been asked to get off the bicycles that have training wheels on them. Luckily, there's a free remedy for this. Just bring your bike to the closest REI store, and their mechanics will take care of replacing the broken training wheel attachments. You can request that a repair kit be shipped to you directly from REI if you are unable to visit a shop.
Waiting for a wobble to become a wipeout is not wise! Benefit from this complimentary fix and ensure your child's safety while they learn to ride. Take immediate action to make sure their riding adventure gets off to the right pedal—or foot!
