Most people who follow the Atkins diet don't like how cutting carbs can cause problems in their bodies. Constipation and diarrhea are two examples of these problems, and they are both bad. When these symptoms show up, they can happen to anyone at any time. People who eat a low-carb diet are more likely to get them.
During the first few days of induction, most dieters will have diarrhea, but not everyone will. This is how the body gets rid of extra carbs. It also marks the start of the process of going into ketosis. So, if you get diarrhea at the start of the diet, that's a good thing. Because you are on your way to becoming a fat-burning machine, this means you are on your way.
Having constipation is caused by a low-carb diet not having enough fiber. People who follow the Atkins diet don't want to eat whole grains, legumes, or fruit in the first few stages.
However, you should not let these worries stop you from adopting a low-carb way of life. If you want to avoid and manage these symptoms so you can stay on your diet plan, there are simple ways you can do that, too.
The first thing you should do is make sure you eat enough low-carb vegetables every day. Allow yourself up to 20 grams of carbs per day during the induction phase. Three cups of salad greens. Some people are tempted to eat cheese or drink artificially sweetened soda to get their carbohydrate grams. While on the Atkins diet, eating vegetables that are safe for you to eat is an important part of keeping your intestines healthy. It's also important to drink at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day and work out. Both of these steps can be good for intestinal programs.
If you have constipation, there are a lot of things you can do to help. Before your body can adapt to this new way of eating, you'll have to give it some time. You should eat a lot of different vegetables and fruits to get more fiber (certain fruits are allowed after the initial induction phase). It's also possible to take a fiber supplement like Metamucil, which doesn't have any sugar in it.
Make sure you're getting enough fats and oils in your food. Constipation can happen if you don't eat enough fat. It can help your digestive health if you add a tablespoon of olive oil or flaxseed oil to your salads or other food. Add a lot of different vegetables to your salad as well. In pale iceberg lettuce, there isn't a lot of fiber in it. You can try dark green lettuces or dark green vegetables that have been steamed and mixed with other foods (broccoli, asparagus or spinach are good choices).
If none of these suggestions work for you, try taking out all the salt from your food for a few days. Pickles, mustard, diet soda, ham, bacon, and bottled salad dressing are just a few of the things that are on this list. This will help you move your bowels and lessen your fluid retention.
It should not be an issue after the first week of the Induction plan. It does, however, sometimes last longer. Take a look at what you eat. Remove any low-carb protein bars or other sugar-free foods from your diet, and you will feel better. A lot of sugar, like glycerine and sorbitol, may be in the food. These sweeteners can cause diarrhea and gas. If you make your own low-carb desserts at home, that could also be a problem, too. Most of them use maltodextrin, which is an artificial sweetener that is used in baking. Most maltodextrin is made from corn, but some people have trouble digesting it.
If you aren't used to eating raw vegetables every day, this could be the cause of your diarrhea, so make sure you don't do this. Make sure you know that your body will adapt to the vegetables, and that the side effects won't last forever. You should make sure you are chewing your raw vegetables very well. Also, if you don't want to eat raw vegetables, you can cook them a little bit.
During the first phase of the Atkins diet, digestive issues are common. However, keep in mind that these issues will subside within the first few weeks of following the new eating plan. If the issues persist, use the previously mentioned suggestions to find relief.
