Cancer and Vegetarians

You may have a general idea that you are better to consume a vegetarian diet. But do you know how much less is the incidence among vegetarians of some forms of cancer?

Vegetarian diets, which are naturally low in saturated fat, high in fibre and free of carcinogenic phytochemicals, help to avoid cancer. Wide studies in England and Germany have shown that, compared with meat eaters, vegetarians are nearly 40 percent less likely to develop cancer. In US studies of seventh-day adventists who are predominantly vegetarians from lacto-ovo, the risk for cancer among those who have avoided meat has been substantially reduced. Similarly, in nations such as China that adopt plant-based diets, breast cancer rates are significantly lower. Interestingly enough, Japanese women who adopt western-style meat-based diets are 8 times more likely than women who adopt a more conventional vegetative diet to develop breast cancer. Fleece and dairy products lead to many cancers, including colon , breast, ovary and prostate cancer.

Harvard research, which involved tens of thousands of women and men, found that daily intake of meat raises the risk of colon cancer by around 300 percent. High-fat diets also promote estrogens to be released in the body. Increased sex hormone levels have been associated with breast cancer. A recent study revealed that among premenopausal women who consumed most (but not vegetable) fat, breast cancer rates were 1/3 higher than those of women who consumed the lesser amount of animal fat. A separate study from Cambridge University also linked diets with breast cancer high in saturated fat. In one study, milk products were associated with an increased ovarian cancer risk. The lactose (milk sugar) process obviously damages the ovaries. Regular meat consumption triples the risk of enlargement of the prostate. Regular consumption of milk doubles the risk and a lack of consumption of vegetables almost quadruples the risk.

Vegetarians avoid animal fat linked to cancer and obtain plenty of cancer prevention fibre , vitamins and phytochemicals. In addition, vegetarian blood tests indicate a higher degree of "natural killer cells," white blood cells that destroy cancer cells.
